Climate Science Alliance Presents at NNOCCI Refresher Webinar
On April 10th, 2017 the SEALIFE Aquarium hosted a National Network for Ocean and Climate Change Interpretation (NNOCCI) Crash Course/Refresher Webinar. This webinar provided tools for improving climate change communication through metaphors, graphics, and talking points. The National Network for Ocean and Climate Change Interpretation is a collaborative effort led by the New England Aquarium with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the FrameWorks Institute, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the National Aquarium, Monterey Bay Aquarium, the New Knowledge Organization in partnership with Penn State University and the Ohioās Center for Science and Industry. NNOCCI strives to provide strategic framing methods for the interpretation of climate and ocean change that can help communicators to engage audiences in positive ways.
This webinar featured presentations from a number of NNOCCI Certified Alumni who have not only gone through extensive training, but have also tried and tested NNOCCI strategies in the field. Among these NNOCCI alumni was the Climate Science Alliance who presented our Climate Kids program as a case study for using NNOCCI messaging with children. Other presenters included Lori Walsh from SEALIFE Aquarium, Anne Marie Tipton from the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, and Ed Mastro from the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.
